Honda e:Swap Battery Sharing Service to Begin in Jakarta on December 21, 2023
PT. HPP Energy Indonesia will launch a battery sharing service business for the EM1 e:, an electric motorcycle, which will be launched by PT. Astra Honda Motor on December 21, 2023.
In Indonesia, energy demand is expected to grow in line with economic development, and the country is aggressively promoting electrification of the transportation sector and expansion of the use of renewable energy sources.
Electrified mobility products currently available in the market are facing two issues: short range and long charging time. PT. HPP Energy Indonesia, Honda Motor Co., Ltd.’s subsidiary for battery sharing service in Indonesia, will launch a battery sharing service business using Honda Mobile Power Pack e: on December 21, 2023, in order to solve these issues by making batteries interchangeable and sharing them, thereby contributing to accelerating electrification and expanding the use of renewable energy. In consideration of this new business, PT. HPP Energy Indonesia launched a demonstration project in Bandung and Denpasar in 2018 with 300 electric vehicles. Through this project, PT. HPP Energy Indonesia identified issues to be addressed and verified business viability.
PT. HPP Energy Indonesia’s battery sharing service will enable to stop by at the nearest battery swapping stations being set up in the city and swap a Honda Mobile Power Pack e: with a low remaining charge for a charged Honda Mobile Power Pack e:. The use of this service, drivers can ensure their battery always ready to support their mobility activities.

Honda Power Pack Exchanger e: charges multiple swappable batteries “Honda Mobile Power Pack e:” at the same time, allowing users of Honda Mobile Power Pack e: such as electric motorcycles to smoothly exchange batteries. It is a battery exchange station that makes it possible. Users will be able to access charged batteries whenever they need them at stations around town, allowing them to efficiently use electric mobility without having to wait for charging time.

・Simple:When swaping the battery, user authentication is performed by touching an IC card to the panel on the top of the unit to ensure high security. The slots are designed with insertion and removal angles that allow easy insertion and removal of batteries in both the upper and lower slots.
・Sophisticated:All information necessary for the operation of the battery sharing service, such as battery charge status, location information, and payment information, is consolidated and managed centrally in the Honda Power Pack Cloud.
・Emergency:If power cannot be supplied to the unit due to a power outage or other reason, the electricity will be supplied from the charged Honda Mobile Power Pack e: and the Honda Power Pack Exchanger e: will continue to lend batteries.

Honda Mobile Power Pack e: (MPP e:) is a portable and swappable lithium-ion battery capable of storing a large amount of electricity, more than 1.3kWh, which is an increase from the previous version of the MPP. The MPP e: also features body and handle designs reflecting the thorough pursuit of user friendliness and excellence in handling by incorporating user feedback Honda obtained through demonstration testing.

・High durability: By considering heat dissipation during continuous discharging, deterioration due to high temperature is prevented, and sufficient water resistance, vibration resistance and shock resistance are ensured under the expected normal operating environment.
・Data utilization: The built-in control unit recognizes the conditions of the MPP e: and records the occurrence of all events. This data will be collected through the connector while MPP e: is charging and then utilized for the battery sharing operation and other secondary uses.
